Post Election Strength, Care, and Compassion

lesliech1979

The past week and a couple days have been a doozy. I have been processing my own feelings, re-living (but with more compassion) my experience during the post 2016 election, and holding space for clients who are riding the grief-rage-panic-fear rollercoaster. Its not a fun rollercoaster, but its definitely an appropriate one.

Some things that have been getting me through:

  • comfort: rest, good food, playlists, shows/movies, connecting conversations, animal snuggles, the Finch app

  • rage: playlists, conversations, somatic stress releases

  • grief: self-compassion meditations, somatic stress releases

  • hope: (I know, its hard to find it, but so desperately important) finding my place in community, leaning into my friends and family, taking it one breath-step-moment at a time

  • joy: poetry, music, art, pleasure

  • learning: listening to poets, artists, activists, historians, and my friends speak about their experience, their knowledge, their emotions, and steps to prepare for the future

How are you coping?

This poem by Andrea Gibson is comforting, inspirational, and compassionate. May you find some hope, calm, balm for the soul. Post election Letter to a friend
